2022.01.25 04:45 louiefb Why aren't pro-life conservatives as impassioned in making divorce illegal?

If their notion of sanctity of human (pre?) life is based on religious beliefs, then clearly they should be as passionate against divorce. After all, isn't the holy matrimony a sacrament to them? In their scripture, doesn't divorce merit excommunication at worst?
I've not heard of a "march for marriage" even in the same conservative circles. What's more, it's not uncommon that pro-life supporters themselves are in 2nd or 3rd marriages -- probably no less than in any sample across the political spectrum.

2022.01.25 04:45 a1rheads Unsure how to ask doctors for CT scan

Hey everyone,
4 days ago I woke up with terrible body aches, a headache, eye pain and a general feeling of being unwell. Then I got a very slight fever (37.2 celsius) which quickly resolved on its own. So I have POTS and my heart rate is already wonky enough, but usually my resting heart rate is normal.
Two days ago I suddenly started having tachycardia at rest that would not go down at all except in the evening when I slept, and I had terrible night sweats. I'm talking 120-140 basically ALL DAY.
At first I thought it was COVID, but every symptom was gone except for this terrible tachycardia and now I also had weird burning chest pain & back pain and pain in my left side. This is where I started suspecting I might have a PE
This continued yesterday, the chest pain was pretty bad and I was also having trouble breathing despite my oxygen levels being perfect. So my housemate who's a cardiologist took me to the ER he works at and I got tested: multiple ECGS, 2 echocardiograms, 3 COVID tests (all negative), x-ray of the chest. Everything was perfect except the fact that I spent the ENTIRE day with 130+ tachycardia and it was terribile.
They took D-Dimer and Troponin; D-Dimer was extremely low but Troponin was high (and some other heart enzyme). Apparently my heart is inflamed?
The doctors think it's myocarditis, but it doesn't feel like it. I've been trying to tell them I feel something is wrong with my lungs but they don't listen to me.
It feels like something is popping inside of my lungs, I have left shoulder pain and pain that feels like it's stabbing directly into my lungs. I literally just want a CT Scan, but I'm afraid to ask because I think they will just shut me down.
I know a negative d-dimer 95% means that you don't have a clot, but this persistent tachycardia coupled with the weird symptoms I had this week (that weren't caused by COVID) is scary and I know there's been diagnosis of PE where the ONLY symptom was severe tachycardia and the d-dimer was negative. (My aunt had a PE and she only presented with persistent tachycardia).
I'm currently at the hospital because they want to do more tests related to the heart. How did you guys advocate for your health? This is my first time at the hospital and I've been really overwhelmed by everything that's happening. I'm not asking you to diagnose me, just to give me some tips in how to convince them to give me a CT scan.
TLDR: Been having persistent tachycardia, burning chest pains, something seems to pop inside my lungs, i have back and lung pain. D-Dimer is "extremely low", negative. Doctors think it's myocarditis, I think it's PE. I want to ask for a CT Scan but they keep telling me nothing is wrong with my lungs because the x-ray was perfect.

2022.01.25 04:45 MetalingusMike Controller vs Mouse & Keyboard - why controller is actually best for CoD

So there's always a debate between controller and mouse players. Mouse & keyboard players complain about Aim Assist being "overpowered", controller players complain that mouse & keyboard players are much faster and find it "unfair". There's truth to both of these sides.
Controller analogue sticks have inherent flaws that need to be mitigated somewhat. The inherent lack of range and inability to efficiently stop on target - a well tuned Response Curve improves practical range and Aim Assist Slowdown helps stop on target. These make using a controller for FPS games, especially at a high level, possible.
Now Aim Assist in CoD and most games that support controller input is a little "over-tuned". There's two parts to Aim Assist in CoD as an example: Slowdown as I've mentioned and another part called Rotation. It's this Rotation that many mouse & keyboard players are actually frustrated with, not Slowdown. How Rotation works is the game will aim slightly towards an enemy whilst aiming and moving, it also centres your camera up close. Being realistic, it's almost like a very mild version of Auto-Aim. Instead of acting as a deficiency mitigation like Slowdown, it's literally adding input to your experience and partially aiming for you.
It may appear to only give a subtle advantage to casual controller players, but it's very easy to abuse and take full advantage of. It works whilst moving and the faster you move and larger distance you cover in a short amount of time: the intensity of the effect increases. Which is why many good players and even average players abuse advanced movement, as not only does having cracked movement make you a harder target to kill - it also makes aiming significantly easier as the game takes a lot of control of your aim if you're executing very fast movements like a 90 degree slide cancel or a bunnyhop. Rotation shouldn't be a thing in all honesty, imo.
This isn't a post hating on controllers, I'm literally a console player myself. But it's an objective analysis to why mouse & keyboard players hate Aim Assist.
Now onto mouse & keyboard. The reason why controller players complain about them is, especially with a good mouse & keyboard player - they have a lot of advantages. Tracking is by default more difficult to the average mouse player, but it's something a good player can master. Being able to flick is inherently a large advantage to using a mouse. Not only can you easily control much higher sensitivities than controllers can allow, but once mastered you can have pinpoint precision as well. Something like performing a 180 degree flick to headshot an enemy posted behind a headglitch is much easier and faster using a mouse.
Another advantage which nobody really talks about is movement speed. Whilst controller analogue sticks provide better controller of fine movements, a keyboard provides much quicker input. They get to accelerate at 100% speed with one press, there is no time needed to move their thumbs to full stick deflection like with a controller. This makes executing advanced movement much easier on keyboard. Yes the learning curve is more difficult than with controller, but once mastered you can abuse movement much more with a keyboard than on controller.
But the thing is, the benefits of each input are very situational. Going back to Modern Warfare 2019, this game even after all this time still has more mouse & keyboard players on it (ratio wise) compared to Cold War and Vanguard. Why? Well that game benefited mouse input. The maps were cluttered with objects and angles, often highly asymmetrical map design. Footsteps are also very loud. It also didn't use a traditional Minimap. The way it was tuned promoted relying on reaction time over most other skills, which means that mouse players & keyboard that often rely purely on their flicking skills had quite a large advantage in this game compared to most controller players - especially when paired with cracked movement with a keyboard.
But the thing is, Modern Warfare 2019 doesn't play like the typical CoD game. In most CoD games, especially ones more competitively balanced like BO2 - controllers are the best input. A game such as BO2 has mostly symmetrical maps that follow a 3-Lane map design, with not too much in the way to create additional angles and clutter. That game also used a traditional Minimap. The footsteps were nowhere near as loud and Ninja was a Perk rather than a time limited Field Upgrade (Dead Silence). You can just rely on mouse flicks and listening to footsteps in that game, especially against the best players. This style of CoD game, which is what most play like, highly benefits controllers.
This is where the hidden advantage of controllers comes into play. I say "hidden" as not many people have thought about this, especially mouse & keyboard players. The real advantage to using a controller in CoD at least, isn't the Aim Assist. It's the ability to centre ones camera. Unlike using a mouse which is a 1:1 hand movement to input, amplifying all your small micro-movement and shakes, along with having to lift up to your mouse regularly - a controller has none of these characteristics. This allows for almost perfect camera centring. The ability to smoothly glide your camera through the map, almost like you're a cameraman moving a wheel based movie camera around a movie set. Games that don't promote rapid changes in camera movement benefit controls massively, especially when combined with analogue stick movement - being able to move at whatever speed you want, with fine control. You can try and mimic the centring ability that controllers have using a low sensitivity with a mouse, but it still falls short. Even CSGO Pros who use a low sensitivity, when peaking around corner have to resort to flicks a lot. Many maps in that game actually suit traditional CoD gameplay, but you just can't centre your camera as perfectly as with controller.
Even if Aim Assist was rebalanced to remove Rotation and focused only on having a well tuned Slowdown, mouse & keyboard players still wouldn't be able to compete with the best controller players - at least in traditionally designed CoD games. Heck, this is true for Halo as well. The design of that game generally promotes a heavy centring playstyle. Even with Rotation, no mouse & keyboard player would beat controller Pros. Now looking at a game like Fortnite, that has a lot of rapid camera movement - this is where mouse & keyboard shines and is primarily why most Fortnite Pros use mouse & keyboard, it's simply suited for that game.
Mouse & keyboard players still would lose to controller players in traditionally designed CoD games due to the centring advantage of controller, even if the Aim Assist was nerfed by removing Rotation.
