2021.12.09 02:01 autotldr U.S. House passes measure clamping down on products from China's Xinjiang region
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 52%. (I'm a bot)
Workers are seen on the production line at a cotton textile factory in Korla, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, China April 1, 2021.
Register now for FREE unlimited access to reuters.comWASHINGTON, Dec 8 - The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday to ban imports from China's Xinjiang region over concerns about forced labor, one of three measures backed overwhelmingly as Washington continues its pushback against Beijing's treatment of its Uyghur Muslim minority.
The Uyghur measure would create a "Rebuttable presumption" that all goods from Xinjiang, where the Chinese government has set up a vast network of detention camps for Uyghurs and other Muslim groups, were made with forced labor.
The White House - and congressional Democrats - deny delaying the bills.
The Democratic-led House also passed two other measures related to China and rights by huge margins on Wednesday.
The House voted 428-0 for a resolution saying that the International Olympic Committee violated its own human rights commitments by cooperating with China's government.

2021.12.09 02:01 HMSquared How Should I Handle A Possibly Touchy Subject?
Hi, all. I’m here to ask for advice.
I do not know much about my grandmother’s father, which may sound like a strange way of referring to him. My great-grandmother divorced him when my grandmother was a teenager and eventually remarried.
Both my great-grandfather and step-great-grandfather were emotionally crappy people from what I’ve heard, which makes asking about them difficult. My grandmother, a normally lively and chatty woman, would not speak about either (though she does have fond memories of her mother). For years, I’ve avoided the subject altogether.
My grandparents came over for Thanksgiving, and I brought out my genealogy stuff. Knowing I’m curious about my great-grandfather, my dad asked my grandmother about him in a very roundabout way and she responded positively.
My question now is, should I continue with this conversation? I want to learn more, but I also have a feeling some bad things linger in my grandmother’s past and I really don’t want to bring them up. At the same time, she is in her 80s and has no siblings of any kind, so having these conversations seems important.
Thank you in advance.

2021.12.09 02:01 PillowNinja99 Have you (current cycle applicants or previous cycle applicants) sent any type of follow-up letters to schools?
Just interested to know how commonly various types of follow-up letters (updates, interest, intent) are sent. I know the premed sample size is biased but still curious to see if they're worth sending at all or if it's pretty common practice to send them.

2021.12.09 02:01 bruhwhatthehelllll Is it weird for me to talk to my "therapist" even though "she" doesn't exist and is just a part of my mind, or do other people do it too?
That's the post. But for extra info I am an 8th grader who has been doing it for months, or even about a year. I would tell "her" things that bothered me that I don't want to tell to anyone whenever there was no one that could hear me (I would tell "her" my problems verbally most of the time). When I finally told my mother about it she wanted me to stop doing it because it freaked her out a lot. She encouraged me to tell it to a real person, not "her", because it forces me to be a therapist to myself. So I am just curious if other people do it.

2021.12.09 02:01 Zelda_Chic Have you been disappointed with a mystery painting?
I want to get one, but... I'm so picky, I'm afraid I'd get something I didn't like then wouldn't finish it.
Have you had a mystery painting and been disappointed with the end result? If so, what did you do with it - give it away, finish it, not finish it?
Are there topics or categories I can choose from so I wouldn't and up with like a Halloween painting when I wanted something more generic? Sorry if these are silly questions

2021.12.09 02:01 leafelte AITA for snitching?
I (15f) go to a public high school in a small town in Montana. when devious licks started happening people would take the mirrors off the walls and put them in the back stall or steal a roll of toilet paper at my school, none of the big crazy stuff, harmless right? but when the trend started to die i guess the kids in my school weren’t done. so people started stealing the soap dispensers and breaking down the stall doors. the girls have been putting used pads and tampons in the toilet and flushing them to clog it. boys (and girls i believe) started taking the toilet paper roll off of the holder and PEEING on the toilet paper roll then putting it back. my principal has made multiple announcements about this and has taken our paper towels away and is currently threatening to take the bathrooms away all together so we have to use porta potties all through winter (winter in Montana is COLD) she said last week if we could go 14 days without vandalism we would get our paper towels back and get a half day. obviously that didn’t work very well and people kept on doing it. since they took our paper towels away people started leaving PUDDLES and i mean PUDDLES of water on the ground after washing their hands to try and prove a point. so this morning my principal came on the intercom and told us if anyone knows who is doing the vandalism she will give the “snitch” $50. i knew who did it but i didn’t want to snitch for $50 lol. but when i got to one of my classes later that day my teacher told us if we came to her or our principal with concrete information she would exempt us from the semester final. that’s what did it for me cause my grades are horrible right now. so i snitched. i told her i know the kids that were breaking down the stall doors and vandalizing. i feel bad because they are kinda close friends of mine but i feel like they kinda had it coming for them? idk AITA?
